Do you think singing predates human language?
Let us begin with the question that how to define the word "singing".Generally speaking as a general rule,we call someone who speak the lyric with melody that he or she is singing.So it is normal to think language predates singing.But I have some different idea to introduce to you.
As we all know,there is a lot of song without lyric,at least not normal lyric.Just like famous tante.Can we called that is singing?Of course!If one hum a song,can we called he is singing?May not,but sometimes we did.Most importantly,there is a way of singing called choirs and there is often just a~ or u~.Can we called that a language?
In my opinion,language is created for communication.That is same to singing,human create singing to express their feelings.Language and singing are both a way of expressing.According to other animals,I guess human can use some language and sing or something like that before they become"human",then,in the history of human,people inprove them and made them perfect.So I think language and singing are created in the same period.
