TRAILER: Kristen Stewart shoots for Oscar credibility with ‘Camp X-Ray’ Posted by: Erik Anderson After stunning Cannes audiences with her performance in Clouds of Sils Maria and even earning better notices than her Oscar-winning co-star Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart finds herself as a new recruit in Guantanamo Bay assigned to watch prisoners in the new film, Camp X-Ray. Like her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, both are looking this year to create some distance from their YA past and forge careers as serious actors. 2014 looks to be a good start for both. http://awardswatch.com/news/trailer-kristen-stewart-shoots-for-oscar-c redibility-with-camp-x-ray/ Kristen Stewart Shocks & Awes In The Riveting Camp X-Ray Trailer Look off into the distance. Do you see that fading porcelain visage melting away just beyond the horizon? That*s Bella Swan, the morose, vampire-loving teenager from the Twilight series. Well, if Kristen Stewart keeps up her current career trajectory, poor Bella will soon be nothing but a distant memory. And, that*s exactly the point. Camp X-Ray is KStew*s latest attempt to delouse herself of the YA franchise that made her way too famous. In it, she plays a rookie female guard at Guantanamo Bay who forms an unexpected bond with a detainee. Based on the compelling first trailer, it*s by far Stewart*s least glamorous role to date, and her best case for awards consideration come fall. While the film earned mixed reviews when it premiered at Sundance, critics were unanimous that Stewart totally brings it. With her performance in the upcoming psychological thriller Clouds of Sils Maria also earning the actress raves, we may be hearing the words "Kristen Stewart, Oscar winner" sooner than we think. Camp X-Ray hits theaters on October 17. http://www.refinery29.com/2014/08/72559/kristen-stewart-camp-x-ray-tra iler Kristen Stewart Is a Guantanamo Bay Guard in *Camp X-Ray* Trailer The news that Kristen Stewart would be playing a Guantanamo Bay guard came as something of a surprise, considering that the actress is best known for playing a girl moon-eyed over a sparkling vampire. But reviews out of Sundance explained that Stewart*s performance in Camp X-Ray is not something to dismiss, and the trailer out today indicates that as well. The trailer shows how Stewart*s character becomes close to a detainee played by Peyman Moaadi, and while she*s not unrecognizable, Stewart also doesn*t seem out of place. In David Rooney*s Hollywood Reporter review out of Sundance he wrote that " a powerfully internalized performance from Kristen Stewart, delivering perhaps her best screen work to date," while Matt Patches at Vanity Fair explained that Stewart is "shedding a skin and allowing herself to be tapped for talent.

While we can all admit Twilight and Snow White and the Huntsman weren*t exactly cinematic powerhouses they*re the exception for her and not the norm. And that*s why directors the caliber of Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria) and Drake Doremus (Equals) keeping seeking her out. But no film promises to get Stewart more attention than the Guantanamo Bay drama, Camp X-Ray, which has finally revealed its first trailer. While the idea of Stewart as a prison guard at Guantanamo Bay could sound like a set-up waiting for a punchline, the film is actually a serious-minded drama on the "War on Terror" and how it effects those we don*t see in news reports. Directed by Peter Sattler, the film centers on a female guard assigned to a GITMO detention facility and the complicated relationship she forms with an inmate. Debuting at Sundance to largely mixed reviews, Stewart*s performance managed to turn a lot of heads including mine. " Stewart*s riveting, tough and vulnerable performance may be the finest of her career" was what I thought then, and it will be interesting to see how others react to it. Also starring Payman Maadi, Lane Garrison, Julia Duffy and John Carroll Lynch, Camp X-Ray has an awards season slot on October 17th. http://www.punchdrunkcritics.com/2014/08/kristen-stewart-heads-to-guan tanamo-bay.html
