The chapter of Interpreting Texts mainly teach us how to explain and understand the texts from different aspects, including “WRITING TO INTERPRET”,“EXPLORING A TOPIC”,“IDENTIFYING INTERPRETIVE COMMUNITIES”,“DEVELOPING AN INTERPRETATION”,“GLOSSARY OF LITERARY TERM” and “SHAPING THE WHOLE PAPER”.
The chapter discusses how to interpret with the example of the poem “We Real Cool” and two analytic respones to the poem are attached and they are used as examples when illuminating each detials.
I strongly agree the opinion that “Your membership in one or more communities determines how you see and respond to the world.” For myself, I probably don't understand the poem “We Real Cool” because I don't live in a community where gangs' infestation. We have the experience of hanging out in gang because most of us are obedient.
The chapter also tells us how to interpret different generes and some terms used when interpreting. What we read can be not limitted to novels and we really benefit from the chapter.
