If there is only one research journal called "Cell", the writer assumes the readers know which one he/she is talking about. So "the" is more likely to be used.

在我回复之后，我又回头搜集了一下例证，所以这里补充更正一下：
1. 使用定冠词还是不定冠词，按照课本的说法，有：是不是第一次提起啊，是不是说话人双方都默认啊，是不是足够家喻户晓啊，等等。这些都自己的道理，在特定的语境中甚至是唯一的原因。但就这一题而言，这些都暂时用不着。
2. 首先来看一下提到杂志名但是照样用了a的例子（都是来自于真实文章）
The article titled “Indoor Bacterial Microbiota and the Development of Asthma by 10.5 years of age” written by THL researchers was published in a science journal called the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in August 2019.
按照之前的观点，不妨狡辩《过敏与门诊免疫杂志》名气不够大。不过：
Here is a research paper published in a science journal called Lancet (April 2000) showing data suggesting that age at time of getting HIV before the era of HAART predicts survival and time to developing AIDS.
说实话，连《柳叶刀》这么有名的医学杂志都得到了这种待遇，让我有点怀疑人生。
3.然后我仔细看了一下这两个结构的区别：
楼主题目里面是published in the... journal + Name；
而在以上例句中则是：published in a... journal called +name.
就是多出来的这个“called”，改变了journal与后面名字的关系，从“叫某个名字的那本杂志（特指）”，变成了“某类杂志（泛指）中一个叫某个名字的”。
4. 因此，就这一题而言，起到决定性作用的，是结构。哪怕是一个默默无名的杂志，只要用了练习里的这个结构，前面也得用the；反之，如果是例子里的结构，哪怕再有名的杂志也得乖乖接受前面有个a(n)。

这个题，显然没出好。
没有死规则 排除 a/the.
