Abstract：Pyrethroid insecticides contain natural pyrethrinsextracted from pyrethrum flowers, and their synthetic derivatives,pyrethroids. The present article provides an overview of the structure ofnatural pyrethrins, and the discovery and development of pyrethroids with anemphasis on the background of selected compounds. The stereochemicalrelationships among pyrethroid secondary alcohols, and toxicologic andenvironmental effects of pyrethroids are also discussed.Finally, the pyrethroid resistance of mosquitoes and future aspects ofpyrethroids are addressed.

虽然期刊不怎么知名，但作者却是拟除虫菊酯研究史上的重要人物。Matsuo的杰出成果是苯氰菊酯结构，由其衍生出来的氯氰菊酯和溴氰菊酯以及氯氟氰菊酯至今还在广泛用于大田鳞翅目、半翅目害虫防治。因此本篇综述可以说是比较权威的水平。而其中一些部分如苯氰菊酯部分的论述，可以说是“我综述我自己”的操作。
